A Winning Mindset is EVERYTHING!

To succeed at anything in life and business requires a winning mindset. Our thoughts, the lens through which we see life around us, how we choose to respond, etc. The internal dialogue with ‘self’ determines what we say (our words), how we act, the decisions we make and subsequently the results we see in our lives and businesses.

A brilliant read on mindset and how this affects the outcomes and success in one’s life is The 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey.

Habit #1 (Be proactive) and habit #2 (Start with the end in mind) are important in developing an independent principled mindset.

It is well-known that we do not have any control over things that happen in our life. We do, however, have control over how we choose to respond.

At ActionCOACH, we refer to the difference between the victim (powerless) and victor (powerful) behaviour.

Typical victim behaviour is to blame, find excuses or denial. All of these responses focus on the past and reasons ‘why’ for an outcome or result.

On the other hand, victor’s behaviour (powerful) focusses on the future and specific desired outcomes or results. This behaviour requires an individual to take ownership of a situation, as well as accountability and responsibility.

In the event of an income that is less desirable, some questions to ask are:

  • What can I learn from this?
  • How can I improve?
  • What else can I do or how can I better prepare next time to see a different result?

A great mindset always starts with ‘ME’. Followed by a pro-active view to a desired future, goals and a specific plan on the steps to implement.

Assigning an accountability partner always helps to ensure one stays focus, eliminating any possible distractions along the way

According to Robin Sharma in ‘The 5 am Club’:

“A 2x3x mindset: To double your income and impact, triple your investment in two core areas – your mastery and your professional capability

A great mindset is personal mastery or self- leadership. Committing to mastery overall one does and all one is.

“It’s about resisting the tyranny of the ordinary, refusing to allow negativity to hijack your sense of awe and preventing any form of slavery to mediocracy from investing your life”, Robin Sharma (The 5 am Club)

In closing, sweet is the victory that follows mastery of self. In the words of the English poet, William Ernest Henley:

“It matters not how strait gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.”
